Ford to Debut 5.2L ‘Predator’ V8 Crate Engine Very Soon

November 5th, 2020 by

Ford hasn’t been shy about crafting some seriously powerful engines lately. Now, Ford fans looking for an all-new, all-powerful crate engine have yet another option to consider.

In addition to Ford’s existing 5.0L Coyote V8 engine and 7.3L Godzilla V8 engine, those craving even more power for their older Ford models will now have access to the incredible 5.2L V8 “Predator” crate engine, the same build that currently powers the track-scorching 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

“We’re in early control pack development right now to be able to run the engine,” said Mike Goodwin, Ford Performance Product Manager of engines, drivetrain, and calibrations. “It’s a little simpler setup because it’s not a full DI like the Gen 3 Coyote is, but we are working on that.”

As of now, no official launch date or pricing has been confirmed for the Predator crate engine, but this news should come as music to the years of Ford fans who have been searching for a modern engine that delivers major power right out of the box.

In addition, custom Ford modders seeking to complete an out-of-the-box build will no longer be forced to supercharge the Coyote, saving some serious time and money along the way.

Official power ratings are largely speculative at the moment, but if the current Mustang Shelby GT500’s powertrain is anything to go by, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect up to 760-horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is Ford’s most-powerful street-legal vehicle in Blue Oval history, and it’s available to purchase right now by special order.
