All-Electric E-Transit Pilot Vehicles Debut Nationwide

The all-new 2022 E-Transit is the all-electric version of the country’s best-selling Ford van. It was recently announced that, through a Ford Pro pilot program, companies around the United States, like Penske Truck Leasing and National Grid, are taking deliveries of pre-production E-Transit units with the intent to plan out how they will deploy them when the vehicle comes to market in the first half of 2022.

The E-Transit van is built to serve a host of commercial industries, offering customers a rotary of eight van configuration options, including a cargo van with three roof heights and three lengths, plus chassis cab and cutaway models. The E-Transit will likely work collectively across industries, including for rental, delivery, service, maintenance, telecom, and utilities capacities. Experience with these E-Transit pilot vans will help businesses understand how battery-powered vehicles coupled with Ford Pro Intelligence and Ford Pro Charging solutions can bolster company efficiencies.

According to Art Vallely, president of Penske Truck Leasing, “We’re excited to collaborate with Ford Pro on the introduction and real-world testing of these new electric vehicles as the first truck rental and leasing company to do so…We expect to see strong utilization and interest from customers making final-mile deliveries, regional deliveries, and eventually consumer use for smaller household moves.”

As an important piece of the pilot program, Penske has deployed an E-Transit van in the Reading, Pennsylvania, area. Penske’s long-term electric vehicle plans include adding electric vans throughout its wider network, including Southern California.

Beyond the pilot E-Transit vans, commercial customers also have the opportunity to test out Ford Pro Intelligence and Ford Pro Charging solutions to experience how those innovative services can bolster efficiency and reduce downtime. These new services help identify the most efficient routes, keep track of charging, monitor each vehicle and their states of charge, keep charging history logs, and figure out how to pre-condition batteries to improve efficiency.
