1964 Shelby Cobra Owned by the Late Neil Peart Will Head to Auction

Aside from being possibly the best rock drummer to ever live, Neil Peart, of the world famous Canadian group Rush, was also an avid car collector.
 

Though he sadly passed away in 2020 following a three-year battle with brain cancer, Peart managed to compile a seriously impressive collection during his lifetime. Now, this entire collection will be sold off at the Gooding & Company Pebble Beach Auction this coming August.
 

Perhaps the crown jewel of this incredible collection is Peart’s beloved 1964 Shelby Cobra 289, which he purchased back in 2015. That’s saying a lot, since the goldmine of automobiles also includes rides like an Aston Martin DB5 and a Lamborghini Miura. Another interesting factoid, this Cobra is the only vehicle in the collection that is not painted silver. Instead, it is a sleek black color.
 

A few years prior to Peart’s acquisition of the ride, which was mostly complete and original to begin with, the 1964 Cobra was treated to a full restoration. Under the hood, it still features its original Ford 289 V8. In addition, the car also includes chrome wire wheels, side exhaust, and rack-and-pinion steering, all of which is in exquisite condition.
 

While there’s no doubt that the 1964 Shelby Cobra 289 is special enough on its own, the fact that it once belonged to Neil Peart certainly adds value. During his career, the iconic drummer and songwriter ushered in a new era of music that helped to change the industry forever.
