Mustang Gains a New Member with All-Electric SUV Mustang- The Mach-E

Sunday evening, November 17, 2019, Ford debuted the all-electric SUV Mach-E, the newest Mustang to enter the lineup in 55 years. Still featuring the muscular build and sleek features of a classic Mustang, the Mach-E can also seat 5 adults comfortably. The latest edition to the Mustang clan features the latest infotainment technology and is capable of going 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. Better buckle-up, because the Mach-E is here to bring an electrifying charge to the Mustang family.

“At the first-ever Detroit auto show, Henry Ford said he was working on something that would strike like forked lightning,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “That was the Model T. Today, the Ford Motor Company is proud to unveil a car that strikes like forked lightning all over again. The all-new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s freedom. For a new generation of Mustang owners.”

The Mustang Mach-E was brought to life based entirely off of customer wants and needs. This gave birth to a fast performance vehicle with equivalent seating and cargo storage to that of an SUV, powered by an all-electric battery. The Mustang Mach-E comes equipped with three driving modes to select: Whisper, Engage, and Unbridled. Each mode offers finely tuned driving dynamics paired with sensory experience. This includes vehicle responsiveness such as sportier steering controls, ambient lighting, and sounds tuned for an authentic all-electric driving experience. The cluster view in front of the steering wheel also offers dynamic animations that relate to specific driving behavior.

“Whether you want to really feel its performance capability or are looking for the quiet atmosphere that electric vehicles can offer, the Mach-E harnesses the power of electrification to create a unique driving experience while retaining that unmistakable Mustang feeling of freedom,” said Ted Cannis, Ford enterprise product line director, global electrification.

The Mustang Mach-E will also be available with standard and extended-range batteries with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options powered by permanent magnet motors. The extended-range battery paired with rear-wheel drive option will hit a targeted 300 miles per full charge. However, the extended-range battery paired with all-wheel drive will give the Mach-E a projected 332 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft of torque. The all-wheel drive option also targets quicker times to 60 mph than the base Porsche Macan series. The all-wheel drive system has been created to independently apply torque to the front and rear axles to implement faster acceleration and improved handling over the rear-wheel drive model.

This Ford all-wheel drive system was tuned to provide superior traction on the road. The Mustang Mach-E was tested in all of the elements, including wet and snowy terrain, to help control slippery conditions. This also makes the Mustang Mach-E to be the first production vehicle to be tuned by the Ford Performance team.

The Mustang Mach-E will also be available in two special performance versions. The Mustang Mach-E GT is targeting 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds, and the GT Performance Edition is targeting 0-60 mph in the mid 3 second range, comparable to a Porsche 911 GTS. Both performance models are expected to produce 459 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft. of torque.

“The Mustang Mach-E wholeheartedly rejects the notion that electric vehicles are only good at reducing gas consumption,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s chief product development and purchasing officer. “People want a car that’s thrilling to drive, that looks gorgeous and that can easily adapt to their lifestyle – and the Mustang Mach-E delivers all of this in unmatched style.”

Ford knows customers not only want speed and performance, but they also have families and need cargo space. The Mustang Mach-E supplies a rear trunk with 29 cubic feet of space. Folding the rear seats down, the Mach-E creates enough space for 59.6 cubic feet of storage. Need a little more storage space? Ford also created a drainable front trunk storage unit, providing 4.8 cubic feet of space. Drivers can use this space to store a carryon luggage bag, or because this storage space is drainable, drivers can pack it full of ice and fill it with their favorite beverages. Whether you’re at a pre-game tailgate or taking a trip to the beach, you’ll find the drainable, front storage space to come in handy.

The Mustang Mach-E also offers ample features for everyone to enjoy. Offered with the next generation of SYNC, the infotainment system uses technology to adapt to the driver’s patterns and lifestyle. It’ll begin to make recommendations based on your behavior, such as calling home on the drive back from work. The Mustang Mach-E also has available a panoramic fixed-glass roof. This glass roof is prepared with infrared protection to help keep the interior cooler in the summer or warmer in the winter, and blocks out UV rays. Another new feature every driver is bound to enjoy is the Phone As Key technology. Using Bluetooth, the vehicle can communicate with the driver’s smartphone as they approach the vehicle and unlock and start the vehicle, all without taking their phone out of their pocket or using a key fob! In case your phone battery dies, Ford has created a backup code that can be entered on the center touch screen to start and drive the vehicle.
